ABOUT THE LEAGUE

The Calabasas Adult Basketball League began in its current form in the summer of 2006. We started with four teams in one division. Through joint use agreements and key partnerships, we have rapidly grown. By 2009, we had 30 teams competing in four different divisions. In 2011, our league teamed up with the Los Angeles Clippes and we now consistently attract over 60 teams each session. This season we have an all time high of 72 teams. In 2014, we were lucky enough to establish a partnership with Viewpoint School and their brand new state of the art gym.

Our leagues run year round and each session offers teams a chance to qualify to play at The Staples Center in our annual classic. We currently have eight different divisions to compete in. The break down of all the divisions is as follows:

  • Division F = Our lowest division. This division is mainly about fun. Non competitve games are slow paced and teams regularly fail to score 40 points. Many players here are just out to sweat and get in some cardio.

  • Division E = This division is comprised of teams that have semi-athletic guys in various age ranges that never played high school basketball and are mainly there to stay in shape. Teams are scoring in the 35-40 point range per game on average.

  • Division D = This division has semi-athletic guys who may have one or two players on each team that have played high school ball. Players are usually older (late 20's to 40's) Teams usually score in the 40-50 point range for a game average and games are more competitive.

  • Division C = This division has athletic guys that have played high school ball, albeit years ago. Many teams are mixed and matched with players from other leagues and don't have much experience together as a team but can still play decent basketball. Scores are in the 50-60 point average range per game and there is an occasional slam dunk or highlight play per game.

  • Division B = This division has athletic players. Most played high school basketball or some other high school sport. Some may have even played junior college sports. Games are faster paced and higher scoring. Teams average 60-65 points per game. Guys are playing very hard on both offense and defense in this division.

  • Division A = Very athletic players. Every team has at least one player who has played at a higher level than high school. Teams average 65-75 points per game. Many players are very athletic and play above the rim. Games are very fast paced and regularly produce highlights.

  • Open Division = Extremely athletic players. All teams have several players who have played at least junior college sports (usually basketball.) Games are fast paced and many players play above the rim. Scores are in the 75-90 point range many games. Very serious basketball players who are in prime shape are usually the types of people in this division.

  • Invitational Division = This is the top tier of the league. Every team has players who have played some college ball or other college sport. There are also retired pros, D-League players, other professional athletes from other sports and overseas pros. Scores are regularly in the 90-100 point range with many games climbing into the 120's and higher. There are many highlights on both ends of the floor.

The way the league works is as follows: Teams will get a minimum of 12 games and as many as 19 games depending on how far you advance through multiple play-offs. Every team has an option to get dry-fit reversible uniforms if desired. You will only play teams within your division until our tournament. To clarify, if you pick division D, you will play a regular season versus only division D teams on your night. Then you will only play division D teams in your playoffs. All teams then get seeded into an NCAA style tournament. This extra tournament is for fun and gives all teams a Cinderella chance at the overall Calabasas City champion. In all of the years doing this, we have actually had an overall winner from every division except division F. Also, if you win your own division (division D in this example) you will qualify for the annual Staple Center tournament. There is no forfeit deposit or any other fees required. We use State certified CIF referees which require $30 cash per team per game to pay the officials. There is really no better deal and no better league in Los Angeles or Ventura County.
